It’s time to make a SHIFT!
I don’t know about you but I’ve been wanting to work from home full time for awhile now. I’ve been wanting more time in my day to do what I want. Of course, I never imagined it would happen within the current context of COVID-19 pandemic.
Needless to say, now that I’ve been given extra time, I’ve been perplexed with what to do with myself. I’m questioning if working from home is really my cup of tea. Home. Alone. Single. No children. Just me and a furry feline. All the while feeling like I should be doing so much more with my time and my life.
How much can you relate?
But wait, how often does this happen? We get the exact thing that we asked for and then we don’t want it anymore. We question ourselves and reject the very thing that we said we wanted. We feel like we’re not doing enough of the things that we should be doing. We feel like we’re not making the most of our time.
We said that we wanted our job but it hasn’t been enjoyable. We don’t like the work. The culture is not a fit. Our managers and supervisors are incompetent. The pay isn’t sufficient. We don’t feel valued. It feels like just a means to an end. Sound familiar?
In times like this when there is so much happening around us there is always an opportunity. An opportunity to SHIFT.
An opportunity…
♦To go inward for deeper self-reflection.
♦To get clear on what we really want.
♦To decide what’s no longer working for us.
♦To elevate so that we can move in the world as our best self.
♦To align our actions with intention so that we’re moving towards our BIGGER vision.
Not just for the benefit of ourselves but also to use our gifts and talents in service to others. This couldn’t be more important than it is today. There are so many people yearning for love, inspiration and encouragement to make it through the day.
So, how do we shift during times such as these when we’re feeling alone, lonely or out of touch with ourselves, where we are and what we should be doing?
Here are 10 things that I’m doing to manage and cope during COVID-19 pandemic:
1. Daily communication with family, friends and loved ones.
2. Staying informed but only checking the news once a day if that.
3. Limiting scrolling time on social media.
4. Increasing self-care with more quiet time for self-reflection, body movement and nourishing my body and mind with clean eating.
5. Making fun and things that I enjoy doing (e.g. reading, writing and listening to music) a BIG part of my day.
6. Giving myself some daily challenges that would probably be difficult if I was going to the office (e.g. trying to drink a gallon of water daily and cooking healthy meals).
7. Reconnecting with my bigger VISION by adding new images to my vision board and spending time journaling and writing for clarity and introspection.
8. Tackling items on of my “never enough time” To Do list (e.g. organizing, de-cluttering and getting rid of old things).
9. Working on tedious business tasks (e.g. marketing and program copy).
10. Honoring my body when I feel the need to just take some time and do nothing, sleep, watch a movie, eat a cookie, take a walk, etc.
These times are unprecedented and filled with uncertainty. We’re grappling with sadness, loss and fear of the unknown. As a result, our emotions may be all over the place from one minute to the next. It’s very important that we manage our energy and keep a positive mindset.
Give yourself space to feel your emotions. Have compassion towards yourself because you’re human and these are very challenging times. Stand in the gap for others. Let your FAITH supersede your FEAR and trust in the promises of GOD. We will get through this stronger and THIS TOO SHALL PASS. Take care and stay safe.
