TechKNOW Tip!

I like nice things and nice things like me! These nice things are usually expensive. When I’m shopping, I’ll find a shirt that catches my eye and I’ll check the price. It’s usually the most expensive shirt on the rack. This boggles my mind every time and I can’t help but laugh. It’s like I gravitate towards the more expensive things. 🤷‍♀️

In my early twenties, I went crazy buying A LOT of things that I didn’t need because I could. I had no real bills and no debt. I did have a good job and credit cards with high limits. I’m sure you can guess where that landed me years later. <—- Oh, if I knew then what I know now. 🙄

Back then, I was buying and spending excessively because growing up my siblings and I could never have the things we wanted. Our options were always limited by price. If it cost too much then we couldn’t have it. When I started working as a teenager, I took on the attitude, if I want it, I can buy it. 💰💰

I learned a lot from my early experiences about money, debt, budgeting, etc. As an adult, I have a greater understanding about my money mindset, where it stems from and consequently my behavior with money.

So much so, I’ve taken on a different perspective when it comes to spending money in my business. I’m very selective about how I spend my business capital. Especially when it comes to tech tools. Perhaps it’s because I know it’s an investment that my business needs to be able to afford and justify. Also, I’m always trying to see what else I can squeeze out of my existing suite of tools.

This is interesting because I spend a lot of time evaluating and researching new software applications and integrations for my clients. Most of them are nice and cool and promise to help in every best way. Naturally, I’m thinking, we totally need this! 🤣 🤣 🤣

But, I keep these key questions top of mind.

Are you buying all of the nice and cool tech tools because you think you should?

Are you carefully considering YOUR business needs?

What current business problem would this tool solve?

That’s what I would like for you to consider today.

It’s not easy because I think the marketers have gotten hip to the fact that we coaches, like nice things. Especially when said things promise to give us so much and take away all of our problems. If you catch us on the right day, we may override logic and click buy. <—- They’re banking on this!

We’re also very committed to efficiency and excellence in our businesses. We know that often necessitates an investment.

Yet, it’s important that we allow our tech tools to grow as our business grows. We can’t get caught thinking that we need ALL of the tech tools that “they” say we should have for our business. <—- If Tech POOR was a thing this would be why.

Often it’s not about the next new shiny tech tool or gadget (cause we love those too), but how we’re leveraging and optimizing our current tech tools or NOT. 👀
