Do you find yourself in repetitive situations? You question, “Why does this keep happening to me?”
Do you see a continuous pattern in your life experiences? You wonder, “What am I doing wrong?”
Do you have bigger goals and dreams for yourself? You think to yourself, “When is it going to be my time? What do I need to do?”
Many of us reach a breaking point in life when we say, enough is enough. Something has to give. Something has to change.
Yet despite this realization, something keeps us stuck. Something holds us back. Something keeps us from having what we ultimately desire.
So, how does one begin to make sense of it all?
Look for the common denominator! Yes, we’re going back to school. If you’re like me, math was my least favorite subject. But stay with me for a moment.
Life has a way of waking us up to the things that we need to see. Sometimes it takes a few hard hits before we are able to see what we really need to see. Until we get the learning or the lesson that we need, we’ll continue to experience the same thing.
Let me put this into perspective.
Think of a toddler that’s walking well and exploring everything in the house. She’s in everything, all over the place. In the cabinets, in the trash, trying to go upstairs, in drawers, etc. As she’s nearing the oven that it still warm you tell her no, it’s hot. It temporarily diverts her attention. But, she’s still curious. Sometime later she makes it back to the oven and places her hand on the door. At which time she quickly yanks it back because she now realizes what hot means. More than likely she’ll get the lesson and will now stay clear of the oven door.
Life experiences can be similar. If we keep finding ourselves in the same repetitive situations, we have to ask ourselves, what’s the lesson that I am not seeing? What I am supposed to take away from this experience? What am I supposed to learn? Maybe it’s as simple as danger; it’s hot. Steer clear. But more than likely it’s much more complicated than that. Perhaps the lesson may be…
It’s time to grow up.
It’s time to make better choices.
It’s time to learn to say no.
It’s time to stop settling.
It’s time to say what you mean and mean what you say.
It’s time to decide what you really want.
It’s time to figure out who you really are.
The list is endless.
Inventory your experiences. If there’s a continuous pattern, look for the common denominator. What’s the one thing that keeps showing up? It’s very likely that the common denominator is the thing that is essential to your growth and you moving forward. It will be the key to your success in every area of your life. Once you get the intended learning or lesson, you’ll be able to move forward and have what you desire.
Until you learn how to recognize and push past your common denominator. It will keep showing up. It will prevent you from reaching your full potential and getting to the next level.
